EJN: The European Judicial Network

The European Judicial Network in civil and commercial matters is a net of representatives from judicial and administrative authorities from the Member States of the European Union.

The main objective of the network is to make life easier for people facing litigation with a transnational element in the European Union.

The network comprises central contact points that are designated by the Member States. One of its key tasks is to inform consumers about matters of civil and commercial law. Furthermore it is intended to facilitate judicial cooperation between the Member States.

The European Commission maintains a homepage that is providing information in matters of civil and commercial law for consumers. Furthermore general information about the legal and judicial systems of the Member Sates is given as well as information about important case law.

Practical information sheets for consumers that cover e.g. information on how to take a case to court or how and under what conditions to ask for legal aid are available on the homepage.
